Harvesting and processing

At this point the hard graft begins and we need to harvest the mussels and clean them ready for market.  We harvest with a large workboat called the Pegasus, which uses a machine to separate the mussels from the ropes and from each other.

The mussels, which are then landed on the pier, are half way to being ready for market.

They then get taken up the jetty to the factory where they are size graded and washed again before being packed into 25kg polystyrene boxes with ice for their journey south.
